The Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society was chartered in 1971 by Mr. Guy Stillman as a nonprofit civic support organization to provide assistance with the development of the then McCormick Railroad Park through volunteer labor and donations. Among the first projects the Society took on and completed was the construction of the train shed building in 1971. The building houses the railroad equipment and a full service machine shop, and even an apartment for the park's first engineer and railroad mechanic. Through the years, the Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society was responsible for the acquisition of nearly all of the park's amenities including: |
| Snackstop Caboose | Partnership Tunnel | Roald Amundsen Pullman Car |
| The Peoria Depot | Magma Locomotive | Gabe Brooks Machine Shop |
| Santa Fe Baggage Car | Aguila Station | Hartley's General Store |
| Birthday Cabooses | Picnic Ramadas | Scottsdale Charros Carousel |
| Playground Equipment | Santa Fe Box Car | Russ Joslin Machine Shop |
| Park Brochures | Museum Artifacts | Park Support Equipment |
