Gold Spike Ceremony

The famous Golden Spike was driven into tracks May 10, 1869 at Promontory, Utah, joining eastbound and westbound rail and creating the first transcontinental rail system. This historic event led to settlement and development of the Western U.S. and its territories, including Arizona.
