Ride the Railroad

Paradise & Pacific Railroad

The first attraction to the park continues to be its centerpiece. It’s built and operated as an exact 5:12 reproduction of a Colorado narrow gauge railroad. The railroad features three steam locomotives, 2 diesel engines, an electric engine, several scale model cars, a turntable, water tank, trestles, and a 32 x 200 train shed providing protection from the elements. The train shed also houses a complete machine shop for building and maintaining the railroad.

Scottsdale Charros Carousel

The beautifully carved and meticulously restored Scottsdale Charros Carousel was purchased by the Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society with significant participation by the Scottsdale Charros, a local service group. Completed in 1950, it is registered with the National Carousel Association for the preservation of antique carousels. With 30 horses and 2 wheelchair chariots, it is a child’s delight!

Arboretum Train

A hidden gem of the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, the Arboretum Railroad runs on Saturdays and Sundays through the park’s two acre, desert arboretum.  The ride, a 1.5 inches to 1 foot scale train, takes guests on a ten minute loop through the desert arboretum, providing a scenic view and unique train riding experience for people of all ages. Currently the Arboretum Railroad runs the first weekend of the month and takes donations. This ride is open seasonally from October to May.
